A Threaded Gift

An unexpected surprise was waiting for me in the mail today. For my birthday, my sister sent me some fabric and sewing supplies. Depicted above (and below) is some of the fabric. There is just enough for a possible dress/tunic. The striped fabric is beautiful up close, and when I first saw the different hues of greys, blacks, and patterned stripes, I thought it would make a perfect Romulan costume.

Even close up, the camera does not do the fabric justice but here is the actual size snipped from one of the images I took.

The silver fabric will make a great sash. I created a collage of the different Romulan uniforms featured throughout Star Trek. I want to make something that melds the TOS look (the uniform on the top left – the woman in the dress with the red sash) with the other looks shown. I’ve always wanted a TOS Romulan dress…among other wonderful geekdom things!

Since the fabric is so nice, I am not taking any risks. I will actually have to go out and buy some sort of pattern similar to the look I’m going for (namely, I want it for trouble areas like sleeves and back zipper). I just hope that there is enough material. I am willing to go for the half sleeve look just in case!
